On Adams Oshiomhole Marriage
On oshiomhole and his bride
The social media is currently awashed with the news of the governor of edo state, adams oshiomole and his bride. What makes it much of a news is the fact that the bride is quite young and excellently beautiful. Trust nigerians, they quickly jumped on the fact that his excellency looks quite old for her while some claim he's too ugly to nab such a damsel. In today's nigerian atmosphere, or even the world over, the common believe is that money can make you marry the most beautiful lady on earth- I strongly believe that too. What I find sickening is how nigerians have made it seem as if all a girl(a naija girl) wants from a man is money, disregarding his other
qualities which might be good or bad.
Immediately the news of the wedding broke out and pictures surfaced, a certain comedian took to twitter to ridicule the female gender. He was quickly called to order by nigerians whom I believe also hold his believe, but made it seem as if they are neutral by taking advantage of the fact that he went too extreme. His assertion made it clear that the nigerian lady is too lazy to earn and fend for herself and will date or marry an ape just to escape the jaws of poverty. I hardly saw any comment being fair to him or going in with a balanced judgement, cos they all attacked him. I'll try as much as possible to view his tweet with what I call the 50-50 spectacles, where I can come across some sense in the midst of what the public presented as totally wrong.
We live in a society where we have been bastardized to the extent of over-dependence on the government for almost everything. If the government doesn't provide schools, can't we educate ourselves? If they don't provide jobs, can't we fashion out something other than a white collar job? I don't intend to exonerate the corrupt politicians, but educating and fending for ourselves is the key to breaking free from the shackles of slavery. A nigerian female undergraduate is hardly trusted by her male counterparts due to the level of aristoism on campus. While she ought to use her free periods to read her books or engage in something productive like learning a trade e.g hairdressing, catering, fashion designing etc she pays unneccesary attention to her body and goes about hunting for married men and yahoo goons. Such ends up with nothing to show for being a graduate and starts looking for a rich man to help her out of her misery. Though some hit that pot of gold, majority end up worse than you can imagine. The few that successfully nab a well-to-do man are the extremely beautiful ones who can make a man wave-off their shortcomings by their mere appearance. I just pity the average looking ones who spent their useful years engaging in beautification just to look like the naturally gifted. Such time should have been used for something productive, which will provide the money that will be more than sufficient enough to enable her become beautiful the way she wants without much struggle. Such girls reject hustling dudes and treat them like plagues, a good reason why majority of naija guys hold the demonizing believe that all a naija lady wants from you is money- f**k love! Majority of such guys were among those calling the comedian to order- hypocracy!
Well, with my 50-50 spectacles on, I observed a thing that most nigerians fail to put into consideration when judging a situation where an old man married a young lady or a supposed ugly man married a damsel. People like the comedian and those that hold his view (openly or secretly) are quick to forget the kind of man adams oshiomole was and I believe still is. This man fought several battles against the mighty federal government of nigeria when he was a comrade and the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC). From workers salary struggles to protests against fuel hike, most of which where not only staged by him but also had him at the forefront. He was like a general that was in the thick of battle with his soldiers. He stood for whatever he believed in and saw it to a logical conclusion. Whenever I remember NLC, I remember his face. Has NLC been thesame since he left? I really feel bad for the damsel he got married to, cos the actions of some empty-brain girls have made nigerians to think any girl that marries a rich man is certainly a gold-digger. People who brought such myopia into the case of comrade adams oshiomole and his bride failed to consider the fact that she might have fallen for him due to his rugged qualities, irrespective of whether he's rich or not. Yes, we all know ladies love a successful man who is also rich, but standing on the grounds that money is all you need to get a lady will only pass you off as another money miss road mugu mugu. You need certain other qualities to buttress your rich status, otherwise she'll leave you as soon as the money stops pouring in or when she finds some other dude with more money and, better yet, the other qualities you lack.
Happy married life, comrade. Ignore them haters...lol
