It Is A Lie, Mary Didn't Wear An Hijab!

Did Mary wear an hijab?

I've been astonished by the rate at which the internet is proliferated by the Muslim world on how they support their believe in hijab wearing by also pointing to Mary wearing hijab as depicted in paintings and movies. Some have even gone as far as quoting the Bible wrongly to back up their practice which is totally contrary to the teachings of Christianity. Let's address the issues here.

First of all, let's note that the claim that Mary wore an hijab is cemented by mere paintings and modern day movies, none of which should be a basis for agreeing that she ever did cos no one living today saw her nor a true camera picture of her. The paintings these Muslims hold as a leverage are mostly the ones used by the Catholic Church in depicting the virgin Mary.

Is the Catholic Church the authority to tell us what the mother of our lord Yahshua looked like? No! It can never be and shouldn't be. How can the Catholic Church that claims that Mary is the mother of God be authorized to portray Mary.

Taking a look at the picture that shows "Mary" wearing what Muslims agree to be an hijab, we see so many unchristian-like things in it, things that have pagan links. The first is an halo over her head. What has an halo got to do with Christianity? Nothing! Halo is pagan in nature and represents sun worship. This halo, which is mostly yellow in colour(the colour of the sun), is sometimes represented by stars in the pictures.

What the Catholic Church is trying to do is make people disobey Yahweh by worshipping an image of Mary with stars on her head. Does God support the worship of stars? No!

Deuteronomy 17:3 New International Version

"and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars in the sky,"

Nowhere in the Bible was it written that Mary had an halo over her head.

Another thing to notice in most of the pictures is a love shaped object with a flame at the top and a sword pierced in it. This is most often seen in her chest with a glow around it. It is also seen in pictures of Jesus. The Catholics call it the sacred heart. This is an another pagan practice smuggled into Christianity cos it has absolutely nothing to do with it. No Bible verse mentions or supports such.

Looking carefully, one will also notice that more of the virgin Mary pictures show her trampling on a serpent. Was it ever recorded that she did such in the Bible? No! What significance does that have with Christianity, if I may ask? Absolutely nothing.

We Christians are to have our beliefs deeply rooted in the Bible. Anything that is not cemented in the Bible should be discarded. Now, if the Bible never mentioned Mary putting on hijab, having halo or stars over head, having a sacred heart or trampling on a serpent, then it is very clear that the woman in the popular pictures of Mary is not actually Mary the mother of Yahshua our lord and saviour. That woman is most definitely a demon in disguise and has been linked to many goddesses, from Athena to Isis including Ishtar and also the Queen of heaven. In Jeremiah 44:15-30, we see the children of Israel making sacrifices to this demonic goddesses called Queen of heaven.  This angered God.

Guess what? The Catholic Church refers to the statue of Mary as the Queen of heaven. In order to worship the demon who is a female goddess, the Catholic Church looked for a way to institute Mary worship. So they quote the below verse:

Luke 11:27

As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."

After reading that part, they tell you to close your Bible then they go ahead to tell you Mary is to be worshipped cos a woman in the Bible said she's is blessed. But look at the reply Yahshua the Messiah gave to the woman in the next verse:

Luke 11:28

He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

Now, if the Catholics claim we should worship Mary because a woman in the Bible called her blessed, then they are also saying we should worship everyone that hear and obey the word of God cos Christ also called them blessed.

A further point to prove that Mary the mother of our saviour is not the woman putting on hijab in the popular pictures is this: that picture has inspired the moulding of statues. The Catholic Church has idolised Mary by moulding a statue of her and bowing down to it.

*catholics bow to Mary statue on hijab*

The Bible kicks against bowing down to graven images.

Leviticus 26:1

"You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the Lord your God.

Another point to note is that Christianity is not modelled after Mary. She is no other than the mother of our Lord, nothing more. Our faith is modelled after Yahshua the Messiah.

Hebrew 12:2

King James Bible

"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of
our faith;"

The Messiah started our faith and finished it in a perfect way for us to follow. Neither He nor His early apostles ever ordered female Christians to wear hijab. Apostle Paul only explained that women are to cover their hair only when praying or in the congregation.

1 Corinthians 11:5

(New International Version)
But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is the same as having her head shaved.

Now, when she's not praying or prophesying, she can leave her hair open cos it is a glory for her and was given to her by God to help cover her head.

1 Corinthians 11:15

But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory for her; for her hair is given to her for a covering.

So you see, a woman's hair helps cover her head, this gives her no need to use a veil or an hijab.

Female dressing and hair covering under Christianity.

Jesus pictures by Catholic Church shows him wearing long hair. Paul says men wearing long hair is a shame. For Paul to have said that, he must definitely know that Christ didn't wear long hair. This is another flaw and a reason not to believe all those pictures portraying Mary and Jesus.

1 Corinthians 11:14

Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is dishonor to him?

Reading further: 1 Corinthians 11:15

But if a woman has long hair, it is a GLORY to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering.

You see, a woman's hair is a glory to her and shouldn't be covered except when praying or prophesying. But Islam orders women to cover their hair at all times unless when they are in the presence of their siblings and indoor. If the Bible says a woman's hair is a glory to her, certainly, no sane person would want to cover such glory? But Islam, a religion that supports wife beating, honour killing, polygamy, pedophilia and many things that are anti-women, gives direction for woman to cover their hair always except when indoor. Some even cover themselves from head to toe without even revealing the face.

If Muslims want to continue their practice of hijab wearing by females, they should stop trying to justify that by claiming Mary the mother of our Messiah wore hijab. She never did cos no record states such.

  1. The bit about the heart pierced by the sword is biblical: "...And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
Luke 2:35 NIV. This was spoken to Mary by Some in at the Presentation of Jesus. The depiction of the serpent under her feet is biblical as well: "I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel."
Genesis 3:15. Mary is seen as the woman foretold in the passage, as Jesus is her seed.

  2. I've never heard Muslims using Mary as a way to defend the right to wear the hijab. What Mary wears isn't really a hijab but just a veil.
Also, what would we know with what she wore? She may have worn the famous veil she's often depicted in, she may have not! But it was common back then in that area for people to wear veils and head scarves, due to the sunny hot weather and as pieces of cloth was the only source of clothing. I think that's why Mary is depicted with a veil, as it was a common piece of garb for women back then. And some men wore a version of a veil.
    There you go!
