Employments Youths Are Getting Hooked On
I believe the era of being self-employed is knocking on the door of Nigerians, whereby people won't blame the government for their joblessness. With the current rot in the educational sector, majority are begining to seek for a path to a better future elsewhere other than the walls of a university. With the system decaying and school fees increasing, many lose interest in enrolling for a university education. Such people are often seen as those with no good future because our society looks down on those without a certificate from an higher institution. Well, am glad such views are been toned down now that the certificateless are beginning to employ graduates. So, if you are stucked in an igbo or a shepe joint thinking about how miserable your life is, get your a5s out of there and engage yourself in one of the top employments youth are getting hooked on which are listed below.
1. Blogging
I know when someone mentions the word blogging, the next thing that comes to your mind is linda ikeji, right? When someone says he's into blogging, you start thinking he wants to dabble into the trade just cos it made her rich. Not everybody wants to be like her, but majority want to be better than her. The first time I heard someone say he made about $100 dollars in a month via adverts posted on his blog by google, I was like wow! That's about 20K in Naira. Next, another person said he has $500 in his google adsense account. Isn't that more than what some white collar workers earn? In blogging, what works his your head and mentality. If you can use both well, then you are bound to become a famous blogger with cash rolling in. But you need a bit of education to achieve this, atleast a school leaving cert and good writing skills. Make sure your blog is educative and inspiring. All you need is just a laptop or a blackberry phone and you are already good to go.
2. Make-up artiste
Every girl now calls herself a make-up artiste just cos they can apply some powder on their face...lol. It takes professionalism to bear that name. So ladies, instead of sitting down doing nothing or wasting your precious holidays, why not enrol with a professional make-up artiste like olori makeovers to get schooled on how to transform a normal face into a beautiful and super gorgeous one? With skills gotten, you won't need to hop around with your CV after school cos you'll be making enough to fend for yourself, way more than a white collar job can pay. What about the flexing and the gallivanting part? This can take you from state to state and hotel to hotel, meeting your client's needs on a weekly basis depending on how sort after you are.
3. Photography
This is one job most people don't see as lucrative till they see their next door neighbour who is a photographer buy a brand new ride. These guys are always engaged with one occassion or the other. When I say occassion, am not talking about the normal iya biliki's child naming ceremony o. Am talking about events like weddings, launchings, taking pix for magazines/newspapers/movies, covering commissioning of projects etc. The guy that took pix for Buhari during his campaigns, how much do you think such a guy raked at the end? Don't waste your time imagining the figure; get yourself up and do something. By now, you ought to have gathered enough experience in photography by the amount of pictures of yourself you have on your phone...lol. Enrol for a course in photography to build yourself, cos there's money to be made on a weekly basis.
4. Fashion designing
It's just so sad that our educational system doesn't teach us how to acquire skills like sowing, instead we are only taught how to cram the definitions of biology and physics. A student should engage in sowing lessons before or the moment he gains admission into a university. This will help such a person in several ways. He won't need to hire anyone to help sow his clothes. He can rake in some change sowing for his friends too. I'll advice he majors in sowing suits and long sleeves cos there are so many people seeking for such. Sowing of native attires is also a good idea due to the booming business of Owambe.
5. Catering
I can assure you that in the next 10yrs, the rate at which people apply for a university education will reduce due to the various self-employment opportunities springing up in Nigeria. Almost every lady knows how to cook, but only a few make money off it. A catering school can help you up your cooking skills to the extent of running a restaurant or catering at weddings and occassions. The best part about this job is that you never go hungry cos every weekend is usually packed with activities that can hire your services if you are really good at it. In the case of running a restaurant, all you need is just a little packaging and you are different from the regular mama put and almost like mr Biggs or Mama cass.
So guys, stop daydreaming about nabbing a senator's daughter, cos even if you come across one, her father will definitely put a stop to the game once he knows you are not secured enough to take care of his child. As for the ladies, note that the prince charmings of today also want a lady that brings more than her beauty to the table. So, get to work and stop applying all the make-up to your face alone; apply on others to make some money.
